World Studies Media Center

Teaching Mission

The World Studies Media Center at Virginia Commonwealth University strives to be a leader in the use of instructional media and information technology for the teaching and learning of foreign languages, anthropology, cultural studies and religious studies.

The School of World Studies recognizes that technology is an important intervention in the teaching and learning of language and culture. Multimedia and the Internet continue to change the landscape of education and we strive to understand how both can be used to improve the teaching and learning of other languages and cultures.

The World Studies Media Center employs numerous strategies to improve teaching effectiveness and enhance the learning environment:

  • To provide faculty and students with the best language learning materials available

  • To provide faculty and students with state-of-the-art learning facilities and equipment

  • To provide faculty and students with maximum access to our resources

  • To maintain a detailed and accessible archive of our resources for teaching, learning and research

  • To provide language instructors with opportunities to learn of new developments in the fields of language learning and technology

  • To support research by language instructors and its dissemination at professional meetings and in professional journals

Our staff is trained to show teachers how to utilize instructional media and information technology to make their courses more dynamic and interactive.
