World Studies Media Center - Lab Use Policies & Guidelines
Last Updated- 04/03/10

General Use

  1. The WSMC is open to all the entire VCU commmunity, but is specifically aimed at providing support and service to the students and faculty of the School of World Studies, the English Language Program and World Cinema students.

  2. Lab-fee paying students and their teachers have priority over non-fee paying students.

  3. Students and faculty must sign-in when entering the lab. The WSMC attendant may ask for VCU ID.

  4. Lab reservations: Any faculty member wishing to teach in the WSMC should reserve Hibbs 424 in advance. Click here to access schedule (Read-only). Room reservations may be made in person, via email, or by phone (828-2320). Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. SWS faculty may reserve the lab for up to four sessions at a time. Instructors may not reserve the lab (for a specific time slot) for the entire semester. Doing so, would block other instructors who may want to use the lab. Instructors who need the lab on a weekly basis have several options - they may reserve the lab for 4 weeks initially and after the first session they can reserve the 5th week and after the second session they can reserve the 6th week. Another possibility would be to reserve the lab for 4 weeks and after the 4th session, reserve it for another 4 weeks.
  5. Hibbs 424 is designed for classroom use, faculty presentations, special events and other projects.
  6. Hibbs 426 is our general purpose area and is open to all VCU students and faculty. When Hibbs 426 is full. The overflow will be allowed to use the computers in Room 424.
  7. Instructors must accompany classes to the WSMC except under extenuating circumstances, in which case special arrangements must be made in advance with the Director of the WSMC.
  8. Instructors may not send entire classes to the lab without prior notice.
  9. No class may be scheduled outside of WSMC operating hours.
