World Studies Media Center FAQ

How do I type with international fonts/characters?

To type with international characters/fonts you can either insert a symbol in Microsoft Word, or use the ALT/ASCII codes that are posted around the lab.

To insert a symbol in Microsoft Word:

1) Click the "Insert" tab and then "symbol".

2) This will bring up a screen with all of the available symbols in several different languages.

3) Highlight the symbol you wish to use, click "Insert", and close the window.

To use ALT/ASCII Codes:

1) When you come to the point when you need an accented character, hold the "Alt" button down while typing in the numbered code for the corresponding letter. A list of the ALT/ASCII Code numbers can be found posted around the lab as well as here.
