ANTH391-902, "Visual Representations: Depictions of the Other"
As a practical application
of theories of represent- ation discussed in class, ANTH391-902 ("Visual Representations: Depictions of the Other") students were required to create a short ethnographic film or photo essay.
Their topics of choice range from issues of assimilating to American culture to narratives of food and cultural identity to ‘urban tribes’ and the redefinition of the family among college-aged youth.
We will be screening their final films and photo essay projects on Thursday, May 8th, at 7pm in Richmond Salons III -IV in the VCU Commons. Please stay for as long as you’d like, or arrive at any point, as we expect to be there until about 11pm .
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
If you have any questions or would like to see a program of the specific films/photo essays to be shown please contact
